Dated : 10 January 2016
Improvement in the relations between India And Pakistan were an indication after Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accepted the invitation and visited India during Swearing-In-Ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Indo-Pak relations today faces a dual track challenges that it has not yet faced, back to back two terrorist attack one last year June 2015 i.e. Gurdaspur attack and now Pathankot attack January 2016.
Surprise Visit Resulted In Terrorist Attack :
P.M.Modi made a positive move to accelerate the pace of the engagement with a surprise visit to Lahore,Pakistan on 26 December 2015.This visit rejuvenated the relations between both the countries, also Foreign Secretary level talks were scheduled to be held in January 2016.
Barely a week after PM Modi's surprise visit to Pakistan resulted in an terrorist attack at Pathankot airbase, which was staged by Pakistan's radical group Jaish-E-Mohammad.Indian government urged Pakistan for a fair and quick investigation. On the proposal for an National Investigation Agency (NIA) team's visit to Pakistan, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) welcomed it.This was the first time Indian government allowed Pakistani investigators to probe a terror attack in India.
Blame Game Started Between Security Agencies :
Soon after the JIT probe was complete a blame game started between the security agencies of Indian and Pakistan.Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit's remarks that "Indian government has not allowed true and fair probe,as a result of which Foreign Secretary level talks has been suspended".Also a bizarre report of Pakistan today revealed that "attack was a drama staged by India to malign Pakistan and Indian authorities did not corporate with Pakistan's investigation team. This created a buzz across media but no such remarks of the news/report being authentic was made by Pakistan Foreign Ministry.
Conclusion :
Now very much depends upon Pakistan that how they initiate the peace talks. There are many positives to take out as the Indo-Pak relations are somehow approaching towards the right directions,As this was the first time Indian government allowed Pakistani investigators to probe a terror attack in India and negotiations are the best means to resolve the issues.
